What to expect at 99 cent stores this weekend

What to watch out for on Sunday night: The 99 cent store in West Auckland is the first retail outlet in the city to open since the city council voted to rezone the area around the store as a heritage site.

The new retail site, which is to be named “The 99 Cent”, will include a small park and parkland, with shops and services including a laundromat, an ice cream shop and a cafe.

Tiger’s Corner store, which opened in 2017, is the second-largest in Auckland.

It is located at the intersection of Wairarapa Street and Wellington Street in the North End.

Cafe Zara opened in March, with a cafe, lounge and kitchen.

Kiwi Shop, which has been a regular fixture in the West End for nearly 50 years, is expected to open by the end of the week.

Waimakariri will also be getting a major makeover with the addition of a second floor, including a cafe and lounge.

New restaurants and entertainment venues are also expected to come online this weekend, including the recently opened Café Pongo and the newly opened Bully Bar.

In addition to the new retail store, there will be a new Kaitaia store and the second floor of The 99 Cent will be converted into a cafe area, with new eateries and cafes set to open this week. 

The Auckland Council is currently in discussions with the owner of Tiger’s Corner and the developers of the rest of the West Auckland site, to find out what will happen to the retail area and what to expect during the redevelopment.

West Auckland will be rezoning the area surrounding Tiger’s corner from residential to heritage and is expected by the summer to see the opening of a new shopping centre.

Source: Newsroom The Auckland Housing Board has said it is looking to build a new multi-storey apartment block in the area, as part of its long-term plan to revitalise the city centre.

It has been reported that the block is expected for construction later this year, with an expected completion date of 2019.

“The redevelopment of the CBD area is the key to making the city more vibrant, resilient and accessible for the community,” a Housing Board spokesperson said.

Auckland’s housing affordability crisis was highlighted earlier this year when the Auckland Housing Agency reported that Aucklanders living in private rented accommodation had the highest rate of rent increases in New Zealand, while the city’s population was experiencing a particularly high level of house price inflation.
